Certiport Honors Peruvian Senior Advisor with Inspiration Award
José Carlos Carvajal, team leader of MuniNet, announces the mobile digital literacy program will expand to serve students throughout Peru at Certiport PATHWAYS HAWAII
WAIKOLOA, Hawaii — August 02, 2008
Inspiration Award Winner José Carlos Carvajal announced aggressive growth plans that will take digital literacy programs to thousands of new Peruvian students at the Certiport PATHWAYS™ Gala awards ceremony. The senior advisor and his team for the Municipality of Lima will expand the innovative MuniNet Program, featuring state-of the-art computer classrooms on wheels, to more than 2,000 cyber cafés through a partnership and advisory program with the Cyber Café National Network and with others regional governments and institutions in Peru. The planned growth will expand learning opportunities for the globally recognized Certiport Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC³®) to students across Peru.
“The MuniNet program has not only grown but truly accelerated digital inclusion,” said David Saedi, President and CEO of Certiport. “By expanding the program nationwide, Mr. Carvajal has helped empower thousands of Peruvians to earn credentials that validate their ability to compete on the world stage.”
The announcement of this MuniNet expansion capped an evening where Carvajal was recognized with the highest honor of the Champions of Digital Literacy program: the Inspiration Award. This accolade exemplifies the outstanding contributions of individuals who inspire the development and support of programs which transcend geographic boundaries.
Since its launch in 2005, approximately 500,000 youth as well as thousands of adults of all ages have taken advantage of the MuniNet program. In January, MuniNet adopted Certiport Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC³®) as a curricular foundation for their classes.
